On March 25 and 26, 2026, the 15th edition of fiberdays took place in Frankfurt: the German trade fair for digital and fiber optic technology. WKF Engineering signed up present with an equipped booth and became a member of Breko, organizer of the fiberdays. This puts us even more firmly in the market. Read on and discover our insights from this two-day fiber event!
The German fiber market: difficult rollout, rapid growth
During Fiberdays, we gained a lot of interesting insights about the German fiber landscape. First, the German network infrastructure is much more fragmented than that in Belgium. Germany has no less than 800 different networks and 260 telecom operators. That is 65 times as many as in Belgium, where Orange, Telenet, Proximus and Digi in particular have the upper hand. The cause of this striking difference? The large number of German municipal networks.
Furthermore, Germany is the fastest-growing market in Europe for FTTH. Last year, nearly 5 million homes passed and more than 1.17 million fiber connections were realized. At the same time, there is still a lot of work to be done. Today, 56.1% of the German population has the option of taking out a fiber connection, but only 13.8% have effectively done so and thus have access to fiber. Another 19.4 million households are waiting for the necessary fiber installation.
“The German fiber market is not an easy market, but it does have tremendous growth potential and is expanding at a rapid pace. This is something we are happy to work on with WKF Engineering. Especially with our software solutions Worksite Manager and SiteWalkR, we can make important contributions.”
– Frederik Verstraete, CCO at WKF Engineering
Proud member of Breko: the German connection network over fiber
One of our main highlights during fiberdays? Our brand new membership at Breko! This German organization brings together innovative stakeholders from the telecom world, organizes various events including fiberdays, and creates numerous networking opportunities. With a clear focus on fiber and more than 540 members, Breko is the broadest connection network over fiber in all of Germany.
“And whether we are proud of our membership at Breko! This not only creates new networking opportunities and chances to gain even more knowledge, but also allows us to help build the German market in a targeted way. To that end, we are passionately committed!”
– Frederik Verstraete, CCO at WKF Engineering
Conclusion: successful fiberdays, look to the future
Excited we came home after the fiberdays! They were two intense days, but with a huge boost to our team spirit. We talked to new partners, strengthened our bond with old acquaintances, presented our software solutions Worksite Manager and SiteWalkR, and gained a lot of knowledge. The German fiber market is on the rise and WKF Engineering is ready to sprint along. We are already looking ahead enthusiastically!
