WKF Engineering realises top-notch hub acquisition for Wyre

Wyre is teaming up with WKF Engineering to install more than 150 hub cabins throughout Flanders. Each cabinet, capable of supporting 10,000 connections to the fiber-optic network, must first obtain the necessary permits. This is a complex and time-consuming permitting process that our experts tackle smoothly, efficiently, and with a clear focus on results. Thanks to strong collaborations with our partners, including Jacops and Netceed, we’re achieving results quickly. For example, the brand-new hub in Wichelen has recently become fully operational!

Want to get a permit? Challenge accepted!

The installation of a hub cabin is preceded by a complex acquisition process. First, we look for a suitable location in the selected area. We analyze the KLIP/KLIM plans for the surrounding area and take photos in the field, marking the future cabin’s location with cones. In consultation with the municipality or private landowners, we determine the perfect location. We have the land appraised by a surveyor.

As soon as we have obtained municipal approval, we have the site plans drawn up by a surveyor. We then submit a permit application to the environmental permit office and, at the same time, draw up a development agreement with the municipality or the property owner. Finally, after the new hub has been installed, we prepare the official deed with a notary and ensure a proper handover to the appropriate design and construction firm.

“Applying for a permit for a new hub cabin takes time. The average processing time ranges from eight months to a year. At WKF Engineering, we’re firmly committed to the fastest approach and don’t waste any valuable time. That’s how we make rapid, visible progress.”

Our strengths: years of expertise and exceptional stakeholder management

At WKF Engineering, we boast impressive experience in the field of acquisitions. With more than 300 completed projects under our belt, we know exactly how to approach an acquisition process to ensure it runs as efficiently as possible. In addition, our land surveyor and administrative team act with lightning speed when submitting and following up on cases.

Reaching an agreement naturally also requires a great deal of negotiation. Thanks to our excellent relationships with municipalities and cities, our hands-on approach, and our strong stakeholder management, we guarantee smooth and high-quality results every time. We sit down together, listen to everyone’s interests, and arrive at a suitable solution that works for everyone.

“The number of stakeholders involved varies from municipality to municipality, but for each project, you’ll often find yourself with 5 to 6 people at the table. If you want to install dozens or even hundreds of hubs, the number of contacts increases dramatically. Thanks to our user-friendly tracking tool and excellent project managers, that’s not a problem at all.”

Featured Project: Successful Hub Acquisition in Wichelen

The brand-new hub facility for Wyre in Wichelen is now a reality, thanks to Jacops and Netceed for their incredibly strong collaboration!

A successful project that required a great deal of thought and one that we, together with Wyre, look back on with pride. This achievement is an important step in the continued development of a strong and forward-looking network.

On to the next projects!

“The installation of this hub was a unique process. After an initial location was rejected twice due to its susceptibility to flooding, everyone continued to contribute constructively to the solution. Thanks to WKF Engineering’s unwavering commitment to continuing to seek alternatives—and the excellent collaboration with Van De Velde—we ultimately found a new, sustainable location within their construction project. With respect for the streetscape and in consultation with the municipality, the hub was beautifully integrated into its surroundings. A sincere thank you to WKF Engineering for their perseverance and solution-oriented approach!”
– Pieter Meeuws, Project Leader at Wyre
