WKF Engineering has three bright years on the counter: an intriguing interview with CTO Sebastiaan Bosmans

On 30th November WKF Engineering celebrated her third anniversary. A fantastic milestone. Chief Technical Officer Sebastiaan proudly looks back to the first years of entrepreneurship and innovation and is looking ambitiously forward to the future. Read more quickly.

Hello Sebastiaan, WKF Engineering has been in existence for 3 years already. As co-founder you were there from the start. How has the company developed in the past few years?

Sebastiaan: “WKF Engineering has begun on a small scale, but has expanded very quickly. In 2021 together with Ben and Wendy, I took a dive in this adventure. Since we did not have our own employees at the beginning, we worked with external consultants. This changed in the beginning of 2023, when we brought our first employee on board. Thereafter our company gained momentum and the three of us focused more and more on “our” field. Ben took on the role of CEO, Wendy of COO and me the role of CTO.

Today WKF Engineering exists out of a powerful team of 50 eager employees, distributed in Belgium, Tunesia and India. Our client base also went through a huge change in 2023. As a result we are working for a very diverse client portfolio of operators and construction parties.”

That is really impressive. Which highlights stand out for you the most?

Sebastiaan: “Our first employee and our first ever contract are without any hesitation memorable moments. However we actually experience highlights on a weekly basis. Each deadline that we meet and each project that we score is a victory. According to me you’re only able to talk about milestones at the end of your career. Because as soon as your milestone is located in the past, you’re not moving forward anymore.

At WKF Engineering we aim non-stop to growth and improvement. By constantly aligning our team to the processes of our clients, we get into a stimulating flow with which we are able to achieve better results. Rest on our laurels? That isn’t in our DNA.”

That shows a lot of ambition! How have your partnerships with operations and construction parties grown? Are there new plans for the future on the table?

Sebastiaan: “By providing our first customer with the highest level of service from the very beginning, we quickly created a reputation as a high-quality and reliable partner in the telecom industry. Open communication and fair work are top priorities for WKF Engineering. As a result, (potential) customers immediately know what to expect from us.

Furthermore, we constantly keep challenging ourselves. Where we are standing now is great, but there is always room for growth. In my opinion, new opportunities are mainly located abroad, and that is where we should focus on. Combined with our transparent approach, this seems the right direction for the future.”

So, there is a lot of growth potential abroad. As you mentioned, you already have dedicated colleagues in Tunisia and India. Are you planning to expand further in that regard?

Sebastiaan: “Establishing new offshore locations is currently not in the pipeline. However, we want to continue investing in our existing delivery centres in Tunisia and India. By raising quality standards, providing better IT equipment, improving the work environment, and offering regular training, we are building a close-knit team that works efficiently and in alignment across borders. Human connection is a key factor for success.”

Absolutely. Behind the scenes, you are actively working on the development of the Work Site Manager, a fascinating software solution for construction parties. What will be the next steps?

Sebastiaan: “With the Work Site Manager tool, we aim to support as many construction companies as possible in executing their civil works. The application will go live in January. In the long run, customers will be able to use our tool for all types of utility infrastructure. Additionally, we don’t want to limit this software solution to construction companies in Belgium—we plan to roll it out internationally. Everyone deserves an efficient tool.”

The launch of the work site manager will definitely be a major breakthrough for many construction parties. A final question to finish: how do you see the future of WKF Engineering?

Sebastiaan: “I think the future of WKF Engineering largely lies abroad. Countries such as Greece, Germany and America provide enormous growth opportunities. Our Belgian customers remain a fixture in our portfolio, but the Belgian market is simply limited. We must therefore dare to look further and grow ambitiously.

Quality remains our key to success. It is our business card: it opens doors and creates trust with our customers. WKF Engineering is not a low-budget engineering company, but a high-end study agency. We achieve this by investing fully in the training and development of our employees. Our team is our strength.”

Thank you, Sebastiaan, for this interesting interview. We are already raising our glasses to the next three years of WKF Engineering, good luck!
